The Vishva Hindu Parishad on Wednesday demanded capital punishment for six individuals sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious 1992 Ajmer sex scandal, where more than 100 girls were raped and blackmailed.
Victims, aged between 11 and 20, were subjected to heinous crimes by a gang that befriended them and photographed them in compromising situations before raping them. The case involved 18 accused in total.
VHP joint general secretary Surendra Jain lauded the convictions but insisted that the punishment be escalated to death sentences due to the severity of the crime. 'We welcome this historic decision in the Ajmer rape case and demand that considering the gravity of the crime, all the culprits should be sentenced to death,' he stated.
Prosecution counsel indicated that a separate trial for these six individuals was conducted as investigations were pending during the initial charge sheet filing. The victims attended a prestigious private school in Ajmer and were lured to a farmhouse where the rapes occurred.
