Switzerland Joins EU Security Initiatives to Enhance Defence and Cyber Capabilities
Switzerland has announced its participation in two EU security initiatives aimed at enhancing its defence and cyber capabilities while maintaining its neutrality. The involvement, under PESCO, includes 'Military Mobility' and 'Cyber Ranges Federation' to streamline cross-border military operations and boost cyber defence cooperation.
Switzerland announced its decision on Wednesday to engage in two European Union security initiatives. Aimed at enhancing cooperation between armed forces, this move seeks to bolster the neutral country's defence capabilities.
The Federal Council confirmed its participation in the EU's Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) initiatives, specifically 'Military Mobility' and 'Cyber Ranges Federation'. The decision aligns with Swiss neutrality, according to a government statement.
The military sector initiative will simplify processing for cross-border transport and military missions abroad, while the cyber initiative aims to strengthen cooperation in cyber defence. Switzerland's involvement is seen as a positive step for its international military missions and cyber expertise.
