The Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Mahasangh announced on Thursday that it will go on an indefinite strike from August 29 if their demands, including the reintroduction of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), are not met.

The strike is set to take place just before the state assembly elections, likely to be held in October or November.

According to the MSGOM, the government must issue a resolution on the OPS as stated in the state budget. Although the matter has been discussed with the state government, no action has been taken to implement it.

The Mahasangh is also demanding that the retirement age for state government employees be raised from 58 to 60 and opposes the system of contractual jobs. Furthermore, it insists that the state government fill three lakh vacant posts.
