The unrest erupted on August 21 when demonstrators took to the streets to condemn what they considered objectionable remarks against Islam by Nashik-based spiritual leader Ramgiri Maharaj. Protesters hurled stones at the Kotwali police station, damaging vehicles and injuring multiple officers in the fracas.
Superintendent of Police Agam Jain stated that a reward of Rs 10,000 has been set for each of the wanted suspects. Both Madhya Pradesh and neighboring Uttar Pradesh have been alerted to their identities. Thus far, 36 individuals have been apprehended, and proceedings are underway to extern six others with prior criminal records from the district.
Additional Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh mentioned that both electronic and physical evidence have been secured against the suspects. Notably, two swords were confiscated from one accused, Nazim Choudhary, and electronic evidence was obtained from Mohammed Irfan Chisht.
