SSB Constable in Chhattisgarh Tragically Ends Life

A 32-year-old SSB constable, Manoj Kumar, allegedly committed suicide using his service weapon in Chhattisgarh's Durg district. He was on duty at the SSB zonal headquarters gate when the incident occurred. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause as no suicide note was found.

A 32-year-old constable of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, as confirmed by local authorities on Wednesday.

The tragic incident happened on Tuesday night while constable Manoj Kumar, who hailed from Haryana, was on security duty at the gate of the SSB zonal headquarters situated in the Newai area of Bhilai town, an official disclosed.

Kumar used an INSAS rifle to shoot himself. The sound of the gunshot prompted his colleagues to rush to the scene, where they found him gravely injured. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Bhilai, where he was declared dead by doctors.

The constable was previously posted in the Naxalite-affected Antagarh area of Kanker district and had recently been transferred to the zonal headquarters for general duty, the official added.

Following a post-mortem examination, Kumar's body was sent to his native place on Wednesday. Authorities revealed that no suicide note was found, and an investigation has been initiated to ascertain what drove him to take this extreme step.

It is noteworthy that the SSB has been deployed in Kanker as part of anti-Naxal operations.
