In a significant rescue effort, the Indian embassy in Laos has saved 47 Indian nationals from cyber scam centres in the Bokeo province. This follows a series of ongoing warnings to citizens about fraudulent job offers in Laos.

Authorities have been actively advising Indians to conduct thorough due diligence to avoid falling prey to such scams. The embassy, to date, has successfully repatriated 635 nationals who were trapped in similar predicaments.

The recent rescue saw 29 individuals handed over by Laotian authorities after a crackdown on illegal activities in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The remaining 18 approached the embassy independently seeking help. Ambassador Prashant Agrawal personally met the rescued group to discuss the challenges they faced and to formulate a further course of action.

The Indian mission is now completing procedural requirements for the repatriation of the remaining nationals. This is part of a consistent effort to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad.
