The Manipur government has directed the state police to undertake combing operations and sanitisation in areas bordering Imphal West district after suspected militants' attack left two dead and nine injured, officials stated.
Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar has asked the police director general to arrest those involved and intensify area vigilance to prevent further incidents.
The commissioner emphasized the necessity of preventive measures in a letter to the DGP, noting the stretch between Keithelmanbi and Koutruk has seen consistent violence since ethnic clashes broke out last year.
Militants fired indiscriminately from hilltops at low-lying areas on Sunday, killing two and injuring nine, police reports said. The attack, which utilized RPGs and drones, significantly escalated the violence.
An official statement condemned the unprecedented attack in Koutruk, highlighting the use of drones for deploying explosives. The incident suggested involvement of highly trained professionals with technical expertise.
Sources revealed at least five bombs were dropped via drones in Koutruk. Ethnic violence in Manipur has left over 200 dead and thousands homeless.
