A 32-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by six people, including a transgender, following a monetary dispute in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar area, officials reported on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Soni Kataria, had objected to the accused demanding protection money from his friend, who operates a parking lot in the area, authorities said.
The incident occurred in Amar Colony, Jyoti Nagar, between Monday night and early Tuesday, according to a police officer. Officers revealed Kataria attended a friend's birthday party and was intercepted by Dheeraj Sharma, a man with five criminal cases against him, and his associates on his way home.
The six suspects allegedly beat him with sticks after Kataria opposed their extortion demands. They also inflicted injuries on his private parts, officials added. Passersby informed local authorities, who admitted Kataria to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Kataria, who worked as a contractual employee in a central government department, is survived by his parents and two brothers. Police have arrested Devesh, Ashwani, Sachin, and Arun Jyotsa, a transgender individual, in connection with the case. Dheeraj Sharma and another suspect, Vivek, are currently on the run. Law enforcement has registered a murder case and formed teams to apprehend the absconding suspects.
