Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, plans to plead guilty to federal tax-related charges, according to a report by NBC News citing his attorney.

Previously, Hunter Biden had pleaded not guilty in the case accusing him of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes while spending lavishly on drugs, sex workers, and luxury items. Both his lawyers and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

Charged in December as part of an extensive investigation into his finances and business dealings, Hunter Biden is the first child of a sitting president to face criminal charges. His trial in federal court in Los Angeles was set to start on Thursday, following a prior conviction in Delaware for illegally buying a gun while using drugs, which he is appealing.
