Junior doctors have decided to defy the Supreme Court's directive to resume work by 5 PM on Tuesday, opting instead to continue their 'cease work' until their demands for justice are met. The protests stem from the rape and murder of a trainee at RG Kar Hospital.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed the resident doctors to return to their duties, assuring that no adverse action would be taken against them. This directive came after the West Bengal government promised that no punitive measures, such as transfers, would occur upon resumption of work.
Despite these assurances, the junior doctors remain steadfast in their demands. They have called for the removal of key state officials, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner and the health secretary, by 5 PM. ''We are open to discussion,'' stated one of the agitating doctors.
