Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, held a press conference in Pusa, New Delhi, to outline significant upcoming events and developments in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) and the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). PMAY-G Disbursements:

On September 15, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the first installment of the PMAY-G funds to beneficiaries in Jharkhand. Following this, on September 16, 2024, funds will be transferred to Gujarat, and on September 17, 2024, to beneficiaries in all other states, including Odisha, where the election code of conduct is not applicable.

In Jharkhand, PM Modi will distribute sanction letters to around 20,000 beneficiaries and transfer over Rs 5 crore directly into their bank accounts. Additionally, housewarming ceremonies for 46,000 newly constructed houses will be held. Jharkhand's target for this financial year is 1,13,195 houses with Rs 187.79 crore allocated.

In Gujarat, the Prime Minister will oversee the distribution of funds to 31,000 beneficiaries and celebrate the completion of 35,000 houses. Gujarat has a target of 54,135 houses this year, with Rs 99.1 crore released.

On September 17, in Odisha, PM Modi will oversee a national program where sanction letters will be distributed to 10 lakh beneficiaries, and Rs 3180 crore will be digitally transferred. The "Awas + 2024" app will also be launched to manage housing allotments.

Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase IV:

The fourth phase of PMGSY will focus on constructing 62,500 km of all-weather roads to connect 25,000 unconnected habitations. This phase will also include the construction of bridges as needed, with a budget of over Rs 70,000 crore allocated for these projects.

Overview of PMAY-G:

Launched in 2016, PMAY-G aims to provide 2.95 crore pucca houses with basic amenities to rural households by 2024. The scheme includes provisions for wages under MGNREGA, toilets under the Swachh India Mission, clean fuel through Ujjwala Yojana, and electricity. Women beneficiaries are encouraged to join Self Help Groups (SHGs) through the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and future provisions include solar rooftops under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

To date, 3.42 crore houses have been built under rural housing schemes, with 2.66 crore houses completed under PMAY-G. The scheme has been extended to include an additional 2 crore houses over the next five years at a cost of Rs 3.06 lakh crore. An amount of Rs 31,73,016 crore has already been released to 16 states for this expansion.

Minister Chouhan emphasized that PMAY-G is more than just a scheme; it represents hope, respect, empowerment, and a commitment to rural development. The government's ongoing efforts reflect a dedication to improving living conditions and fostering a better future for rural India.
