Three individuals, including 26-year-old Pranali Pralhad Naik, have been arrested in Navi Mumbai on charges of matricide tied to a property dispute, police revealed on Monday.
Pranali, along with her associates Vivek Ganesh Patil and Vishal Amresh Pandey, both aged 19, allegedly strangled her mother, Priya Pralhad Naik, on September 13. Initially considered an accidental death, the case was reopened following a post-mortem report indicating unnatural causes, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone II, Panvel, Prashant Mohite.
Investigations pointed towards a conspiracy orchestrated by the victim's daughter and her accomplices. The trio now face charges under sections 103(1) (murder), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. Disputes over domestic issues and property are believed to be the motive behind the crime, as per police statements.
