The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has identified 34 significant instances of non-compliance by government departments where its recommendations on dealing with allegedly corrupt officials were disregarded or weakened.
The CVC's annual report for 2023 noted that in several cases, officials were either exonerated or had their penalties reduced by their departments. The Coal Ministry had the highest number of such cases, followed by entities like SBI and IDBI Bank.
The CVC criticized these actions, stating that non-adherence to its advice undermines the vigilance process and the impartiality of administrative actions. Specific cases involving premature closure of contracts and financial irregularities were cited as examples of these lapses.
