Anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal has announced a call for applications from journalists seeking accreditation to cover its workings. The detailed eligibility criteria require journalists to have a law degree recognized by the Bar Council of India under the Advocates Act, though exceptions can be made under certain conditions.
The criteria further specify that journalists should possess at least five years of experience reporting for daily newspapers, national or international news agencies, or electronic media organizations, with at least three and a half years spent covering constitutional courts. The submission deadline is 30 days from the issuance of the circular.
Additionally, accredited journalists must follow a specified dress code and maintain decorum while on Lokpal premises. They are also required to refrain from accessing confidential records and to report accurately based on information provided by Lokpal's spokesperson. The Lokpal's chairperson has the discretion to grant or withdraw accreditation, the norms state.
