Norway Escalates Terror Threat Amid Rising Tensions
Norway elevates its terrorism threat level due to rising risks against Jewish and Israeli targets. Consequently, police officers across the nation are now armed for protection. The decision follows heightened tensions in the Middle East and mirrors similar actions taken by neighboring Sweden.
In response to an increased risk of attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets, Norway has elevated its terrorism threat assessment to the second-highest level, the national police directorate announced on Tuesday.
Norwegian police, traditionally unarmed, will now bear arms nationwide due to the PST security service's decision to raise the threat level, attributed to the conflict's escalation in the Middle East, according to police officials.
National Police Commissioner Benedicte Bjoernland noted an increased likelihood of terror attempts, with protective measures in place. This action aligns with Sweden's similar alert raise last year after events inciting jihadist threats.
