Sri Lankan authorities have intensified security protocols at Arugam Bay, a favored surfing locale, after being informed of a potential threat to Israeli tourists, police spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa announced on Wednesday.
The heightened measures come swiftly after the US embassy in Colombo cautioned American citizens to steer clear of Arugam Bay, citing credible data suggesting possible attacks on popular tourist areas there.
Thalduwa highlighted that regional police have ramped up roadblocks and vehicle inspections over the last few days, with plans for additional security provisions throughout Sri Lanka as the nation braces for the incoming year-end tourism surge, critical for its economic recovery.
