The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has addressed a significant corruption case by filing a charge sheet against Santosh Kumar, a principal commissioner of Income Tax in Patna, along with four others.
Accused of accepting bribes from various income tax assessees, Kumar is reportedly at the center of a scheme involving multiple intermediaries working under his jurisdiction, officials revealed.
The criminal proceedings gained traction following an operation on August 26, where Kumar and his accomplices—Gurpal Singh, Rajiv Kumar, Ashok Chaurasia, and Pranay Purbay—were apprehended in a Rs 10 lakh bribery exchange. The CBI's submission to the Patna special court indicates that further investigation into wider conspiracies is underway.
