The Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday called for the cancellation of assembly memberships of six MLAs appointed as Chief Parliamentary Secretaries (CPS) after the Himachal Pradesh High Court quashed the 2006 law under which they were appointed.
The court's ruling has declared the appointments void, thus sparking controversy. BJP's leader of opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of making unconstitutional appointments and demanded their revocation and the withdrawal of the CPS's privileges.
The state government is deliberating further steps, with Chief Minister Sukhu stating that the judgment will be studied in detail before proceeding. Meanwhile, state minister Rajesh Dharmani maintained that the assembly membership of the six legislators remains secure, despite the court ruling.
