The parliamentary committee tasked with scrutinizing bills advocating simultaneous elections will soon consult former Chief Justice of India, U U Lalit. Scheduled for February 25, the committee is preparing to engage with a variety of experts and stakeholders, sources confirmed on Monday.
Along with Lalit, former Law Commission of India chairperson Ritu Raj Awasthi, judicial member of Lokpal E M Sudarsana Natchiappan, and IAS officer Niten Chandra are also anticipated to present their views to the panel. Chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, the high-level committee has already expressed strong support for simultaneous elections in its report.
The parliamentary committee, led by BJP MP P P Chaudhary, has already convened twice to outline its agenda and list of experts for consultation. Having accepted the recommendations, the Union Cabinet introduced two bills in the Lok Sabha, marking another step toward realizing the one nation, one election concept.
