The Supreme Court was apprised by the Chhattisgarh government on Friday that it will refrain from coercive action against former advocate general Satish Chandra Verma in connection with the NAN scam case. Verma, accused of helping scam-related individuals secure bail, will not face arrest until February 28, the state's assurance stated.
Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta took note of the state's stance, as presented by deputy advocate general Ravi Sharma, and requested a formal response by February 28. Allegations suggest Verma assisted two accused individuals, Anil Tuteja and Alok Shukla, in bail proceedings. However, Verma's defense argues these claims arise from a shift in political administration rather than evidence.
Senior advocates for Verma insist the accusations, based partly on WhatsApp communications, lack merit. Despite the gravity of the NAN scam involving low-quality food supplies, Rohatgi argues the government has not contested past bail decisions. The case remains pending at the apex court with Verma seeking anticipatory bail amidst ongoing legal scrutiny.
