FBI officials have uncovered a chilling romance scam perpetrated by Aurora Phelps, 43, who used online dating platforms to target older men, sedating and robbing them. Three of her victims, ensnared in this lethal ploy, have reportedly died.
Phelps, now in custody in Mexico, faces 21 charges, including wire fraud, identity theft, and kidnapping resulting in death. Authorities allege she lured men with promises of companionship, only to incapacitate them and seize their assets.
Phelps's method included using sedatives to render her victims unconscious, enabling her to steal their property, access bank accounts, and exploit social security benefits. The FBI is working with Mexican authorities to extradite Phelps back to the U.S. for prosecution.
