Wild Tensions: Protests Erupt in Aralam Over Elephant Attack Tragedy

In a tense situation, the residents of Aralam in Kannur district staged a protest following the tragic death of a tribal couple by a wild elephant. The demonstrators blocked an ambulance carrying the deceased, demanding action from Forest Minister A K Saseendran.

Political figures, including Kannur MP K Sudhakaran and MLA Sajeev Joseph, attempted to negotiate with the protestors, but failed to disperse the crowd. Heated protests saw Youth Congress workers blocking the minister’s vehicle and waving black flags, prompting police intervention.

A heavy police presence maintained order, as officials announced a Rs 20 lakh compensation for the affected family. Meanwhile, a high-level government meeting was scheduled to address the ongoing human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
