After spending years in a Pakistani jail, twenty-two Indian fishermen have finally been released and returned to their homeland in Gujarat, India. This significant milestone was marked by a heartfelt expression of gratitude towards the Indian authorities who facilitated their release.
The fishermen, who were apprehended by Pakistan’s marine security between April 2021 and December 2022, called upon the government to hasten the release of approximately 195 Indian fishermen still languishing in Pakistani jails. Concerns were raised about the enduring health and living conditions these detained individuals face.
The release underscores a broader diplomatic and humanitarian issue, as these 22 individuals join the many others repatriated since 2014. The fishermen's return journey took them through the Wagah Border, ultimately concluding in Gir Somnath, Gujarat, with hopes pinned on ongoing efforts for others' freedom.
