A Bareilly court has sentenced four police constables to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for the attempted murder of a senior woman officer in 2010. The verdict marks a significant step in enforcing accountability within the police force.

Special public prosecutor Manoj Bajpai revealed that special judge Suresh Kumar Gupta of the anti-corruption court-I concluded the hearing on February 21 and handed down the sentences on February 25. The convicted constables are Ravindra, Manoj Kumar, Ravindra Singh, and Dharmendra.

The incident occurred in 2010, when then-superintendent of traffic police Kalpana Saxena investigated reports of constables extorting money from truck drivers. Upon witnessing the alleged crime, Saxena was chased and endangered by the constables. Her resilience led to their subsequent arrest and prosecution, culminating in their conviction. Saxena now serves as a deputy inspector general in Ghaziabad.
