A former member of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has been arrested in connection with the murder of sub-inspector Amitabha Malik during the 2017 Gorkhaland agitation, a senior police official reported.
Prakash Gurung, now a leader of the Indian Gorkha Janshakti Front (IGJF), was detained from his residence in Darjeeling on Sunday morning. Following his court appearance later that day, he was remanded in 14-day judicial custody.
Gurung had managed to evade authorities since an arrest warrant was issued in 2017. A charge-sheet filed in January 2018 listed Gurung alongside 26 others, including Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung, as responsible for the death of SI Malik during the statehood agitation in Darjeeling.
