A court in Nalgonda district has delivered a landmark judgment, issuing a death penalty to Subhash Kumar Sharma for his role in the 2018 honor killing of a Dalit man. The case drew significant attention as it highlighted persistent caste issues within the region.
The judgment also sentenced six other individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement. Pranay Kumar, the victim, was targeted due to his marriage with a woman from a higher caste, which incited outrage across Telangana.
The investigation unveiled that Maruti Rao, the victim's father-in-law, masterminded the murder with a contract killing worth Rs 1 crore. Shockingly, Rao's plan involved hiring assassins, two of whom had previous criminal backgrounds.
