Criminal Hideout Uncovered: Rio Police Dismantle Drug Trafficking Resort
Rio de Janeiro police dismantled a 'drug trafficking resort' in the Israel Complex of Rio favelas. Built by notorious criminal Alvaro 'Peixao' Malaquias, the facility included luxury amenities and served as a meeting point for traffickers. Arrests were made, but Peixao remains at large.
Rio de Janeiro police have taken down a major drug trafficking hub, described as a 'resort,' in the favelas' Israel Complex. Officials characterized the facility as a lavish hideout complete with an artificial lake, pool, and gym.
Authorities alleged that the site was masterminded by Alvaro Malaquias, alias 'Peixao,' a criminal whose organization commands the area. Located in protected land, this hideout also illegally altered a local river's course.
During the operation, police executed arrest warrants on Peixao's network. Although three individuals were apprehended, Peixao evaded capture, and a city lockdown ensued while agents ordered the destruction of the structure.
