U.S. Endorses Syrian Democratic Forces' Integration into Unified Syria
The U.S. backed a recent agreement that integrates the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with Syria's new government, signaling support for a unified Syria. The accord encompasses civilian and military institution integration and grants control to Damascus over key northeast resources.

In a significant political development, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced support for an agreement between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syria's new government. This landmark accord, made public by the Syrian presidency on Monday, aims to incorporate SDF-controlled regions into Syria's state institutions.
In a statement on Tuesday, Rubio said, "The United States welcomes the recently announced agreement to integrate the northeast into a unified Syria." He emphasized America's commitment to a political transition that promotes credible governance and expressed concerns regarding recent violence against minorities.
The agreement entails the integration of SDF civilian and military bodies, and the transition of control of strategic resources like border crossings, an airport, and oil fields to the Damascus administration. This move is crucial for Syria amid ongoing investigations into mass killings of the Alawite minority in the west.
