Key Delhi High Court Cases: From Jamia Violence to Political Controversies

On Thursday, March 27, the Delhi High Court was the epicenter of pivotal legal decisions. One such case involved the 2019 Jamia violence, where the HC refused to halt criminal proceedings, allowing charges to be framed against the accused.

In another hearing, the HC denied Jammu and Kashmir MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh an urgent audience. Sheikh, who is embroiled in a terror funding case, sought exemption from covering travel costs for attending Parliament sessions while in custody.

Additionally, Delhi HC agreed to examine the plea of AAP leader Somnath Bharti, who is contesting BJP's Satish Upadhyay's electoral victory in Malviya Nagar. The court also addressed activist Medha Patkar's request to introduce a new witness in her defamation case. Emphasizing the essence of press freedom, the court underscored its role as a democratic society's pillar.
