UNGA President Calls for Calm Amid Escalating India-Pakistan Tensions
UNGA President Philemon Yang has urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint amid rising hostilities. He advocated for dialogue and diplomatic solutions in line with the UN Charter for peace. This follows India's Operation Sindoor targeting terror sites in Pakistan and a subsequent intense artillery exchange.
Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, United Nations General Assembly President Philemon Yang has made a fervent appeal for restraint and dialogue. On Thursday, Yang emphasized the need for both nations to engage in diplomatic solutions aligned with the UN Charter and international law to ensure lasting peace.
Yang's call came after India's Operation Sindoor targeted terror sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Punjab province, an action that was met with intense artillery and mortar shelling targeting Indian villages by the Pakistan army.
The UNGA president condemned terrorism and violence against civilians, advocating adherence to the UN Charter for conflict resolution. He stressed that dialogue remains the path to peace and stability, amidst reports of casualties and injuries on both sides after the military actions.
