The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has released an advisory discouraging the use of backup power during designated blackout periods in Lutyens' Delhi. This comes after a mock drill, part of Operation Abhyaas, revealed lapses in adherence to blackout protocols.
During the 15-minute drill from 8 pm to 8:15 pm, several critical areas like Parliament House and India Gate were meant to observe a complete blackout. However, many households and commercial entities continued using alternative power sources, defeating the purpose of the exercise.
Highlighting the need for strict compliance, the NDMC's Chief Engineer (Electrical) emphasized that no form of backup power should be activated during such exercises to ensure maximum safety and security preparedness.
