China's new tariffs of up to 35% on EU brandy are unfair and unjustified, an EU spokesperson said on Friday, even if major cognac producers like Pernod Ricard and Remy Cointreau were spared.

"We believe that China's measures are unfair. We believe they are unjustified. We believe they are inconsistent with the applicable international rules and are thus unfounded", spokesperson Olof Gill told reporters during a press briefing.
