Senior CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat has sharply criticized the arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh, describing it as "unconstitutional and illegal." She demanded their immediate release, alleging a targeted attack on Christians by the BJP and state government.

Karat, who met the detained nuns at Durg Central Jail, claimed the arrests were based on a fabricated case. The nuns, accused by a local Bajrang Dal member of trafficking and forced conversions, were arrested along with Sukaman Mandavi. Karat insists the charges are politically motivated.

Karat's comments follow claims that Bajrang Dal activists coerced alleged victims into changing statements. She emphasized the right of Indian citizens to move freely, rejecting the allegations as part of a Hindutva agenda against minorities.
