In a significant move towards resolving the protracted Mahanadi River water-sharing dispute, the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh have shown commitment to an amicable settlement, according to the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal.
On Saturday, as the tribunal convened, there was acknowledgment of the positive engagement from both states, aiming for a negotiated solution. Justice Bela M. Trivedi urged relevant state secretaries to present progress at the next hearing scheduled for September 6.
The commitment to dialogue reflects a desire among both states to resolve the issue politically, with Odisha's Advocate General Pitambar Acharya highlighting that there is a belief in a breakthrough if approached positively, amidst ongoing governmental negotiations at various levels.
