Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Special Court for MPs/MLAs, marking a significant conviction in a high-profile case. The sentence follows Revanna's conviction on charges of rape and sexual abuse across multiple cases.
Despite Revanna's emotional plea for leniency, citing his academic merits and political career, the court upheld the prosecution's demand for maximum punishment, considering the severity of the crime. The court ordered a fine of Rs 11.50 lakh, with the majority amount directed to the victim.
Revanna's legal troubles began when explicit videos surfaced before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Following his failure to retain his parliamentary seat, he was arrested upon arrival from Germany. The prosecution presented robust evidence, including digital and forensic proof, leading to his conviction on multiple charges.
