Assam's Ambitious Plan for India's Largest High Court Complex

Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announces the commencement of construction for the new Gauhati High Court complex by year-end, despite opposition from the Gauhati High Court Bar Association. Land acquisition and compensation distribution have been initiated, with plans for India's largest high court on a 42.5-acre site.

Despite strong opposition from the Gauhati High Court Bar Association, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the construction of the new Gauhati High Court complex will commence by the end of this year.

Sarma, speaking in North Guwahati, announced that land acquisition and compensation payments to landowners are already underway for the project. The government has secured 129 bighas for the future site at Rangmahal.

Although the Gauhati High Court Bar Association opposes the court's relocation, the new complex, anticipated to be India's largest high court, will include both the main and subordinate courts within a planned judicial township.
