The vote was initiated by the opposition, which accused the government of failing to implement meaningful reforms in the justice and security sectors. These areas are considered vital for curbing corruption in Bulgaria, a European Union and NATO member state.

The motion saw 101 lawmakers supporting it, while 132 opposed. To succeed, more than half of the parliamentarians in the 240-seat assembly needed to back the vote, highlighting the government's continued stability.
