The Centre is tackling concerns over bias against employees with disabilities by committing to provide high-quality assistive devices to enhance their productivity and integration in the workplace.
This initiative comes in response to observations that some departments are hesitant to assign significant responsibilities to disabled employees due to fears of reduced efficiency. A directive from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) underscores that, with appropriate aids, PwDs can be just as productive and valuable.
The new policy urges all Central ministries, departments, and public sector enterprises to implement technology-based solutions, such as motorised wheelchairs and adaptive computer hardware, ensuring that PwD employees can perform effectively and alongside their peers.
