Kolkata's Kali Puja celebrations witnessed significant law enforcement action, resulting in the arrest of 640 individuals for various illegal activities. Police officials reported that the contraventions included the use of prohibited fireworks, disorderly conduct, and gambling.
Authorities seized 852.45 kgs of fireworks and 68.4 liters of liquor during the festivities. The disturbance prompted the Kolkata Traffic Police to prosecute 882 additional offenders for violations, notably pillion-riders without helmets, bursting firecrackers, and rash driving.
Among these, 99 individuals faced prosecution for drunk driving, and 156 were reprimanded for general rule violations, underscoring vigilant policing throughout the public celebrations.
