The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is set for a significant nine-day autumn session starting Thursday, with a spotlight on two private member resolutions introduced by PDP leader Wahid-ur-Rehman Para. These resolutions delve into restoring the J&K Waqf Board to its former custodianship and reinstating the original cadre for state civil services.
One resolution highlights the controversy surrounding the 2025 Waqf Amendment Act, advocating for control of the board by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq's religious group, MMU. This act, according to MMU, curtails Muslim management of religious trusts, raising concerns over discrimination.
The second resolution pushes for the reinstatement of the J&K cadre of IAS, IPS, KAS, and KPS officers, previously merged with the AGMUT cadre following the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. This merger dissolved the state's separate administrative structure, placing further emphasis on central governance.
