IRCTC Scam Case: Lalu Prasad Yadav Seeks More Time Amid Election Campaigns

A Delhi court sought a response from CBI following Lalu Prasad Yadav's plea for more time to prepare for witness examination in the IRCTC scam case. The court had earlier framed charges under sections of cheating, conspiracy, and the Prevention of Corruption Act, and set dates for evidence examination.

A Delhi court on Monday required the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to respond to a plea from former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife, Rabri Devi. The couple has requested four weeks to prepare for witness examination in the IRCTC alleged scam case.

Previously, charges were framed against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav under laws related to cheating, criminal conspiracy, and sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court scheduled prosecution evidence sessions to begin from October 27 on a day-to-day basis until November 7.

Judge Vishal Gogne noted the defense's request for more preparation time, citing short notice between charge framing and evidence commencement. Despite opposition from CBI, the judge allowed witnesses present in Delhi to provide testimony. Proceedings continue as election campaigns loom in Bihar.
