Major Seizure of Illegal Meat in Ranchi Sparks Arrests

Police in Ranchi seized 26 quintals of prohibited meat and arrested four individuals after intercepting vehicles transporting the banned goods. The meat is banned under the Jharkhand Bovine Animal Slaughter Prohibition Act. Among the arrested were three persons from Uttar Pradesh.

In a significant operation, law enforcement officers in Ranchi seized a substantial quantity of illegal meat, leading to the arrest of four individuals. The bust followed a tip-off that led authorities to intercept three vehicles laden with the prohibited substance. The seizure took place in the Lower Bazar area.

The city's Superintendent of Police, Paras Rana, confirmed that "nearly 26 quintals of prohibited meat have been seized." The arrests included three individuals hailing from Uttar Pradesh, pointing to a broader network beyond the state borders.

This action underscores the enforcement of the Jharkhand Bovine Animal Slaughter Prohibition Act, which has banned the slaughter and trade of cow and bovine meat in the state since 2005. The incident highlights ongoing efforts to uphold this legislation amidst challenges.
