A Bangladeshi national, identified as Mamun Hasan, has been arrested in Dehradun for illegal residence under a false identity, according to local police. He is also accused of converting and marrying an Indian woman, Reena Chauhan, whom he allegedly wed in Bangladesh under the name Farzana Akhtar.
The police disclosed that Hasan, originally from Meherpur, Bangladesh, and Reena, from Tyuni tehsil in Dehradun district, began their relationship on Facebook in 2019. Hasan reportedly traveled to India on three separate tourist visas before illegally crossing the border in 2022, taking Reena with him to formalize their marriage in Bangladesh.
The couple later returned to India, where Hasan assumed the identity of Reena's former husband, using falsified documents such as Aadhaar and PAN cards to settle down in Dehradun. He was employed as a bouncer in the city before his arrest. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation into the matter.
