China has sharply criticized Japan's decision to deploy missiles on an island near Taiwan, accusing Tokyo of escalating regional tensions and provoking potential military conflicts. This move comes amid an intensifying diplomatic rift between the two countries.
The situation deteriorated after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi suggested that a hypothetical Chinese attack on Taiwan could elicit a military response from Japan. Responding to these developments, China's foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning accused right-wing forces in Japan of leading the region toward disaster.
Japan's Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi confirmed plans to position medium-range missiles on Yonaguni island. This strategy, according to Koizumi, aims to protect Japanese territory. Nevertheless, China's response was reflexive, encompassing bans and stern warnings, further straining the bilateral relationship.
