The Delhi High Court issued a directive for Tihar Jail authorities on Friday, emphasizing the necessity to provide proper medical treatment for separatist leader Yasin Malik, who is currently serving a life sentence in a terrorism case. The order came after it was noted in Tihar Jail's report that Malik does not appear to have a life-threatening illness.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna stressed that if the required medical treatment is unavailable within the prison facilities, Malik must be taken to external hospitals equipped to handle his condition. Malik's petition included medical documents from 2017, but the court acknowledged that recent reports do not indicate a critical health status, thus directing only necessary medical care.

During court proceedings, Malik's counsel argued for his treatment at AIIMS due to his heart condition, amid concerns raised by the government about his high-risk status and previous hunger strikes. The National Investigation Agency had previously sought a death penalty for Malik following his life sentence under UAPA and IPC charges.
