The Election Commission (EC) on Friday announced the appointment of retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta as the 'Special Roll Observer' for the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal. This key role involves ensuring the accuracy and inclusivity of the electoral roll.
Gupta, a 1990-batch officer from the West Bengal cadre, is charged with safeguarding the revision process, ensuring that all eligible voters are included while excluding ineligible names. The EC also named 12 other IAS officers as Electoral Roll Observers to oversee these critical preparations across different districts.
The newly appointed observers will assist district election officers and electoral registration officers in executing corrective measures where necessary. Among those appointed are Smita Pandey and Tanmay Chakraborty who will cover regions like Paschim Bardhaman and Murshidabad, respectively, as the EC undertakes these comprehensive revision efforts.
