BJP member Tejinder Pal Singh Bagga brought a case before the Delhi High Court, asserting his defense against Subramanian Swamy's defamatory tweet that questioned his integrity and cast aspersions on his character.
The court, led by Justice Ravinder Dudeja, is addressing Swamy's request to overturn a summons from a lower court where Bagga had previously initiated a defamation case. Swamy's September 2021 tweet alleged Bagga's repeated arrests for petty crimes prior to his BJP membership, a claim Bagga vehemently denied.
Characterizing Swamy's tweet as a calculated assault on his reputation, Bagga's reply highlighted the damage it caused, referencing a meeting with senior BJP leaders to address the issue. He refuted the allegations, stating no arrests had occurred, and criticized Swamy's pattern of controversial comments on social media platforms. Allocating time for Swamy's counsel to submit a counter-reply, the case will proceed on April 6.
