The Kerala High Court on Saturday provided interim protection from arrest to expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who is facing allegations of rape and forced abortion. The court's decision offers temporary relief to Mamkootathil ahead of his anticipatory bail hearing.

Justice K Babu has scheduled the hearing of the anticipatory bail plea for December 15. Until then, the court barred authorities from arresting the former MLA. Advocate S Rajeev, representing Mamkootathil, confirmed the court's interim order.

In addition to the current charges, Mamkootathil is also implicated in a second sexual assault case, further complicating his legal challenges.
