In a significant development, ten hardcore Naxalites carrying a total bounty of Rs 2.36 crore surrendered in front of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, in Balaghat on Sunday evening. Officials confirmed the surrender as a pivot point in the state's ongoing efforts against Naxal activities.
The Naxalites, formerly belonging to the 'Bhorsadev area committee' of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), reportedly laid down arms including AK-47 and INSAS rifles. According to Chief Minister Yadav, this surrender marks the onset of a comprehensive Naxal eradication campaign expected to commence in January next year.
In recognition of their move back to the mainstream, surrendered individuals will be offered a 15-year rehabilitation package. The Naxalites were part of the new division KB of the Maharashtra, MP, and Chhattisgarh (MMC) zone, encompassing regions near the Kanha Tiger Reserve and Bhoramdeo Wildlife Sanctuary.
