A dramatic shootout unfolded in Sardhana where a man accused of cow slaughter sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of fire with police, officials reported Tuesday.

Identified as Nawab alias Nawabuddin from Ruhasa under Daurala police station, the suspect was shot in the leg and apprehended on Monday night. Two of his associates managed to flee under the cover of darkness.

Acting on intelligence about a planned cow slaughter near an orchard by the canal, Sardhana police conducted a raid. The accused allegedly fired upon the officers, prompting retaliation. Nawab was injured and subsequently detained. Police recovered a cow, slaughter tools, and firearms from the spot. Nawab, facing 14 criminal charges, is associated with various offences across several districts.
